General FAQs

Q. What is Knit Keeper?
A. Knit Keeper is a useful and fun tool to help manage your knitting life. It can help you keep track of your knitting and crochet needles, your yarn stash, your knitting projects and your pattern library references. Knit Keeper will allow you to have all of this information at your fingertips, so the next time you are in your favorite knitting store you will know exactly what you have. No more stressing over whether to purchase extra needles. No more stressing on remembering the dye lot of that skein of yarn. It will also help you show off your projects to all of your knitting friends.

Q. How does Knit Keeper work?
A. The best way to get to know Knit Keeper is just to play with it. You will find the way that works best for you. The initial screen will allow you to choose an icon for needles, stash, projects, or patterns. After selecting one, choose the ‘New’ button and fill in the information that you wish. To move to another section of Knit Keeper, use the tabs at the bottom.

NEEDLES
Q. How do I create a new needle record?
A. A new needle record is created from the main needle screen by tapping the ‘New’ button in upper right corner. The ‘Add Needle’ screen is then presented. Now you may enter the information that you desire.
Type in the fields you desire. Not every field must be filled. It’s up to you.
Use the buttons on the selection bars to further describe your needle.
When you are finished describing your needle, touch the ‘Done’ button up in the right corner. It will take you back to the main screen.

Q. Do you have any suggestions on how to use the ‘Brand’ field?
A. As an example, in the ‘Brand’ field you may want to enter ‘Addi’ or ‘Addi clicks’ or ‘Addi lace’. It’s up to you how you want to describe your needles. The first time you input a brand name, touch the ‘Add’ button next to the field. This will store it it for you to use again later. The next time you need the same brand, choose the ‘Select’ button and then touch one of the brand names that you have previously added.

Q. I have duplicates in my brand list. How do I get rid of them?
A. There are two methods. The first is to choose ‘Edit’ at the top left of the screen. Touch the red and white ‘minus’ sign of the brand you want to remove. Then select the ‘Delete’ button. Hit the ‘Done’ to leave the edit mode. The second method is faster (and more fun!) Simply swipe to the right (or left for you lefties) over the brand name that you wish to delete. Then touch the ‘Delete’ button. This swiping method can be used to edit any table item in iPhone apps.

Q. My needle doesn’t quite fit into any of the categories available. What should I do?
A. Many use the ‘Notes’ field for additional information. You may put anything in the notes section. While the notes don’t show up on the main screen, you can look at the note by selecting the needle’s record from the main screen.

Q. For what kind of things do people use the ‘Notes’ field?
A. You may use it for whatever you desire. Some keep track of specific projects in which the needle was used. Others note where the needle was purchased (like Camus Creek Yarn in Kalispell, Montana). Use your imagination!

Q. I can’t seem to get my size 00 and 000 needles to work in the size field. What should I do?
A. For this we need to do a little work around. Use the crochet letter field to put in your 00 and 000 needles.

Q. I can’t seem to get rid of the keyboard. What do I do?
A. Touch somewhere on the colored background of the page. The keyboard should retract.
